Singaporean legal professionals around the world can now be kept informed of legal developments in the local scene through a simple Internet connection.

Since its launch in December 2002, the new LegalConnect at www.legalconnect.org.sg has become a vital link between the Legal Policy Division (LPD) of the Ministry of Law and legally trained Singaporeans working overseas. Besides keeping its members updated on local developments, the website has served as a constructive platform for them to channel feedback on developments in other countries back to LPD.

Before the launch of the website, communication with the 60 members of LegalConnect was done via email only. Most work in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, with a few in Australia, Brunei, China, New Zealand, United States and Vietnam.Now they can easily access legal updates online, including press releases and ministerial speeches on matters that have an impact on the legal landscape of Singapore. The website also makes it easy for any new members of LegalConnect to catch up with updates which have been sent out previously.

More visibility to Singaporean lawyers

LegalConnect can be an imperative link between Singaporean investors who intend to extend their reach overseas and Singaporean lawyers working abroad. Being well-versed in both local and foreign laws presents new business opportunities for these overseas-based lawyers - just by being well-connected.
